High energy QR Code - Chapter 206 – Elimination methods
Being able to fight side by side with you… it’s really great.
Two players were stuck between “This guy might be the thirty-million target so I need to kill him,” and “This guy is a powerful hunter—if he kills the thirty-million target, we’ll lose and have three-quarters of our points deducted.” In short, no matter how they looked at it, they had to get rid of him.
“Is that so?” the beer-bellied middle-aged man said. “In that case, before we meet the thirty million, let’s settle things between us.”
“Are you two idiots?” Xing Ye said with biting sarcasm. “You’re already fighting amongst yourselves before confirming the true identity of the thirty million? Even if you do plan to take everything for yourselves, shouldn’t you at least find the thirty million first?”
Though mocking them, his tone carried a hint of weakness.
The elite office-worker type said, “The earlier we eliminate opponents, the better, isn't it? And where did you get that confidence from, anyway? There are two of us, and only one of you.”
Xing Ye narrowed his eyes at them, curious how they planned to attack.
A player’s offensive options were initial skills, QR codes, and items. Fate-defying players tended to have combat-oriented initial skills, while Fate-following players tended toward support, healing, control, and defence. In reality, QR codes were the most powerful attack method—but because you never knew what effect a code would have, using one rashly could be embarrassing and waste a valuable QR code.
So at the start of a fight, players usually relied on combat-type initial skills or QR codes linked to items. As for control-type skills…
Xing Ye glanced at the large mirror beside the washbasin. The reflections of all three of them appeared in the mirror. He had deliberately chosen this spot as the battleground to maximize Lu Mingze’s strength and prevent any control-type skills.
The two players opposite assumed Xing Ye had just casually turned his head. They had no idea he already had every advantage—timing, terrain, and allies.
Seeing that the two were preparing to attack, Xing Ye stepped back and said, “Think carefully. I’m a high-level player confident in hunting down the thirty million alone. Are you sure you want to make an enemy of me before the target is even confirmed?”
“Heh,” the beer-bellied man stepped forward. “Of course, because I have confidence in my ability!”
As he spoke, he grabbed his belly—his gut vanished instantly—and a machine gun appeared in his hands.
“Turning trash into treasure” : this was the middle-aged man’s initial skill. He could turn bodily “waste” into functional weapons—for example, if he didn’t need his eyes, he could ‘donate’ one to turn it into a telescope. It was actually an extremely powerful skill, except that lost organs couldn’t be restored. That was why he needed a healer, and the elite office-worker was his bound teammate.
Xing Ye took only a moment to deduce the skill and its side effects. Seeing the machine gun, he smiled faintly and suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, “Help! Someone brought a heavy weapon onto the train! Help!”
Before he shouted, he pointed at the washbasin mirror, lifted his baseball cap, and revealed a startled expression. The two players instinctively glanced at the mirror—and froze when they saw a devastatingly beautiful man reflected there.
In that moment of daze, Xing Ye shouted “Help!” and rolled backward, tumbling into Car 9.
The moment he entered Car 9, Lu Mingze immediately left the mirror and returned to the small cross-body bag. No longer seeing the stunning face in the mirror, the two players regained their senses—but they had no idea that in just those few seconds, Xing Ye had already slipped into Car 9’s passengers and hid behind a seat, trembling on purpose.
His loud cries for help made all the Car 9 passengers notice the machine gun in the middle-aged man’s hands. Women and children immediately screamed. Xing Ye shouted, “Call the police! Call the police! There are train police on board!”
Sure enough, someone took out a phone, and others tried to sneak out of the car. Furious, the middle-aged man fired a shot into the ceiling. “Nobody fucking scream! I only want one person’s life—I won’t hurt any of you. Sit still!”
Xing Ye raised an eyebrow. So these two still didn’t understand what the “Civilized and Harmonious Train” hint meant. They actually dared threaten passengers with a weapon. Bold of them.
Hiding behind a seat, he shouted, “He has an accomplice! The man in the suit next to him is his accomplice!”
“Shut up! I’ll kill you right now!” the middle-aged man roared, raising the gun and shooting at Xing Ye’s position.
But the shot hit nothing—because the man shouting for help vanished, leaving only a baseball cap.
The two players rushed to the seat where the cap-wearing man had been hiding. Nothing. How had he suddenly disappeared? What ability was that?
While the two were still trying to figure it out, several fully armed train police appeared at both ends of Car 9. One officer pulled out a sheet of paper with a QR code drawn on it and said: “This is an arrest warrant. You two armed criminals are surrounded. Do not resist or take passengers hostage. If you cooperate, you can strive for a reduced sentence!”
“Reduced sentence my ass!” the suited man snapped. “What the hell is happening? Where’s the guy with the cap? Can we attack the train police?”
“Break through first—we’ll figure it out later!” the middle-aged man said, raising the gun at the police. “They’re just NPCs—lower existence than us—we can kill a few and—”
Before he could pull the trigger, a numbness swept through his whole body. His arms went limp. The gun hit the floor.
The police hadn’t attacked—they simply scanned the QR code on the “arrest warrant.” Both players instantly collapsed, paralysed. As they fell, they wondered how train police could use QR codes too.
The police cuffed them, reassured the passengers, and escorted the two away.
The passengers murmured among themselves for a while, then returned to their seats as if nothing had happened.
At that moment, a passenger in a corner who had kept his head down lifted it. He walked to where the middle-aged man had fired earlier and picked up the baseball cap from the floor. With a low laugh he said, “Didn’t expect the train police to use QR codes too. These two were eliminated way too easily.”
While shouting and hiding earlier, Xing Ye had quickly drawn a “paper Substitute” QR code behind the seat. He put the conspicuous baseball cap on the double, then used the chaos among passengers to hide nearby while stirring things up.
The cap was too eye-catching, and the voice had come from that direction—naturally the middle-aged man assumed the one yelling was the cap-wearing person. When he pulled the trigger, Xing Ye dissolved the paper Substitute, creating the illusion of someone vanishing into thin air.
The two players, bewildered, focused only on how Xing Ye disappeared. It never occurred to them to check whether there was suddenly an extra “ordinary passenger.”
Brandishing a gun and threatening people—at the next stop those two would probably head straight to the local police station. A murder every station… tough job for the train police.
With the baseball cap on, Xing Ye walked from the end of Car 9 toward Car 8 and noticed that the passengers had all returned to being calm, which made him narrow his eyes slightly.
“Your move was just… way too unexpected! Totally unexpected! Hahahahahahaha!”
After experiencing a battle, Lu Mingze said excitedly in Xing Ye’s mind.
Who could have imagined that Xing Ye would actually eliminate two players like that?
Shouting “Help!” and calling the train police—Lu Mingze was laughing himself silly.
Xing Ye checked his phone. It showed that 15 hunters remained. He then said to Lu Mingze in his mind: “This high-speed train isn’t a real world. It’s a simulation created by the game, and it’s different from the previous game worlds.
“In past worlds, the NPCs—based on Lin Jingxue and Liu Muqing—could be confirmed as real people living in some small world. But this world is different. Look at the passengers: something that big just happened, yet they recovered their composure so quickly. And even seeing QR-code attacks feels normal to them. This means that on this train, except for the players, all NPCs are system-controlled and have no emotions.”
Only then did Lu Mingze breathe out in relief: “So the little girl who died earlier wasn’t real… I… feel a bit better.”
Seeing he had been worrying about that wronged little girl, Xing Ye smiled: “Don’t worry. No one actually dies because of the game.”
Lu Mingze brightened: “Mm!”
Xing Ye continued: “For this operation, besides confirming the abilities of the train police and the identities of the passengers, I had another goal.”
“What goal?” Lu Mingze was shocked. They had already verified so many things—what else was there to confirm?
Xing Ye said: “How to achieve a perfect victory in the train world.”
Lu Mingze asked: “Isn’t it enough to eliminate the other 19 hunters? And this world only rewards the final-round invitation card—there aren’t even points. Perfect victory doesn’t seem that useful.”
Xing Ye: “There are ways to eliminate players. Like how I just used the game’s rules to get rid of them—without shedding a drop of blood and without dirtying my hands. I’m thinking the condition for perfect victory might not be killing passengers or killing hunters at all, but instead eliminating them via loopholes in the rules.
“And another thing: this game’s reward is only the final-round invitation card. Doesn’t it feel like something is missing?”
Lu Mingze thought for a moment, then suddenly understood: “My equipment QR codes! The QR-code draw we always get after victory! The system didn’t even mention it this time!”
Xing Ye thought: “That’s why I suspect that for this game’s perfect victory, we might get the QR code that allows you to return to your body. Of course, it’s just a guess—it might not be true.”
“But even then, we would definitely draw very powerful QR codes,” Lu Mingze said happily.
“You’re just too smart. I didn’t think of any of that. I was totally distracted by the system’s hunting rules.”
Hearing Lu Mingze praising his intelligence, Xing Ye smiled inwardly. That happiness and smugness was immediately felt by Lu Mingze.
Lu Mingze instantly changed his tone: “But your intelligence still can’t compare to my overwhelming beauty, hmph!”
Xing Ye replied: “Of course. My combat plan only worked because of your overwhelming beauty, otherwise those two wouldn’t have given me the chance to call for help. Without you stalling them, I wouldn’t have had time to draw the QR code, nor could I have waited for the train police to arrive.”
Hearing him praise him, Lu Mingze became embarrassed again: “No, no, it was your plan that was good.”
Then Lu Mingze spoke in Xing Ye’s mind: “All this time, I could only watch you fight and couldn’t contribute at all. This time, being able to be part of the fighting force, to fight side by side with you… it feels really good.”
